Digitizing Southwest Florida’s Heritage, Building a Cooperative Digitization Project

The purpose of this document is to offer general guidance to libraries and organizations in the State of Florida that are considering launching a cooperative digitization project. This document describes the implementation and management of the Southwest Florida Library Network digitization project, Digitizing Southwest Florida’s Heritage, as well as the benefits of participating in a state-wide cooperative project environment with the Publication of Archival, Library and Museum Material (PALMM) and the University of Florida Digital Collections (UFDC).

The recommendations included in this document may not be appropriate or adequate for all digitization projects, and are simply meant as a guide.

Introduction
The Southwest Florida Library Network (SWFLN) is a member-governed consortium of Multitype Libraries (e.g. academic, public, school, special) and information specialists (e.g. librarians, genealogists, historians, academicians, archivists) in Southwest Florida serving the counties of Charlotte, Collier, DeSoto, Glades, Hendry, Lee, and Monroe.
